Time in a Bottle

If I could keep time in a bottle,
I know which times I would keep.
I would keep the times and the memories,
Some bitter and some sweet.

My first would be my marriage,
The day I said, “I do”,
The day when the world was ours,
For just an hour or two.

My second would be my children,
The joy and pleasure they brought,
The ups and downs in their lives,
Which they thought their mum could sort.

The third would be my grandchildren,
Another generation is born,
To see them all as babies,
So tiny and perfectly formed.

I know I have been fortunate,
And I cherish each moment apart,
Because it isn’t time in a bottle,
Its memories you keep in your heart.
